Things between me and Justin were intense after the “club experience”. He didn’t bring it up and our conversations were casual, but extremely short and hardly any. We both avoided talking to each other and whenever our eyes met, he would look down. Was he feeling guilty? Probably. But why? I mean, we weren’t dating so it shouldn’t matter who he kissed or flirted with. Well, to him it shouldn’t. To me…that’s another story. I’ve been seeing Taylor. It turned out he studied at my school and none of us knew it. We bumped into each other a couple of times at school and would go out as friends. To be honest, I enjoyed spending time with him because he would make me laugh and forget about Justin.
Everything was going as normal as it could be for me - awkward conversations with Justin, pressure, jealousy, going out with Taylor, school and priceless times with my bestie. Until one day the most weird/awkward situation happened.
It was the break before last period and we were playing cards – Justin, Matt, my bestie and I. My bestie and I were winning, which was quite surprising because we never won against Justin and Matt, but that’s not the point. We were playing and laughing, occasionally someone would say something like ‘In your face’, when Justin shocked me, Matt, my bestie, everyone.
- Are you doing anything this afternoon, Ina? – he asked.
- No? I don’t have anything planned, anyways. Why? – I tried cooling but honestly, I was kind of excited. Was he going to ask me out on a date?
- Just asking.
And that was it. That was our entire conversation. Not a word anymore about that. WEIRD! What was all of that supposed to mean? Why would Justin care if I had anything to do in the afternoon? I swear sometimes it’s like he’s an alien and I can’t understand anything about him or anything he says.
I went straight home after school and did my homework. It was little so it took only 30 minutes to be done. As I told Justin, I had nothing planned so I decided to watch movies all afternoon and as I was getting ready for my “movie afternoon”, my mobile phone rang. I got it out of my pocket to see the name “Taylor” on it.
- Hey, Taylor. What’s up?
- Not much, wanna go out to a café or something? I’m bored. – and man, did he sound bored!
- Sure, I’m bored myself.
- Great! I mean, not that you’re bored but…
- Tay! Tay! I got it! Haha, what time?
- Would you be ready in about 10 mins?
- Sure, ba-bye now.
- Be there in 10, bye.
Taylor came in exactly 10 minutes (yeap! He was deadly punctual!) and we went out.
- So, where are we going? – Tay asked.
- To a café? – smartest answer ever! But hey, that’s me!
- Yeah yeah, but which café?
- I don’t know, how about we go to the one we first went to? We haven’t been there since – but I couldn’t finish my sentence because…
- We first went there – Taylor finished it.
- How dare you finish my sentence? – I said in an angry voice.
- Be honest! You like it! – he winked as he said it and his winking always made me laugh! – See, you’re laughing. We’re all good.
- I’ll get back at you…someday…probably…if I’m lucky enough.
- You dream, lady.
We got to the café, ordered and talked about life – school, homework, parents, everything. We were having fun until until UNTIL UNTIL UNTIL until Justin walked in the café! WAIT! He didn’t just walk in! He walked in with some girl! Hand in hand! My mind went crazy! I wanted to scream and wait, I did scream, though it was only on my mind! My head was going to explode but I had to act it cool. I mean, whatever! He can date anyone and I shouldn’t care. But who was I kidding? I cared! I hoped he wouldn’t see us with Taylor but lucky me, he did. What was worse – he started coming towards our table. “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? WHY ARE YOU COMING?” I so wanted to stand up, slap him and walk out like they do it in the movies.
- Aye, what’s up? – he asked totally casual which made me more furious.
- Nothing man, having fun. Won’t you introduce the lady to us? – Taylor asked and SCORE! I loved it when he said that we were having fun.
- Oh, yeah. That’s Kristen. Kristen, that’s Taylor and Ina.
- Nice to meet you, you’re a cute couple. – she said which immediately made me and Taylor laugh. – What? Did I say something wrong?
- They aren’t a couple, Kristen. – Justin said with jealousy in his voice while my mind was saying “REVENGE!” over and over again.
- No, we aren’t but thanks. Nice to meet you, too. – I said smiling like crazy. – Hey, why don’t you sit with us?
- No, no, Kristen and I have other plans. – Justin hurried to say.
- We do? – obviously Kristen knew nothing about it.
- Come on, I’m one of your best friends, Justin, I should get to know Kristen better. – I was in beast mode, yahoo!
- Yeah, I guess. – he agreed sadly and they sat down.
I talked to Kristen about girl stuff and Taylor and Justin talked about guy stuff, but I could see Justin glancing at me from time to time. I was glad for 2 reasons – I made him jealous, put him in a completely awkward situation and was spending some time with him. Wait, that’s 3 reasons. Oh, whatever.
- Tay, I just got the best idea ever! – I said excitedly.
- Tay’s litening. – he said curiously.
- Let’s have a movie afternoon. I was going to before you called.
- Awesome, but we’ll stop to buy pop-corn and other junk food, right?
- Yes yes yes! You have fun, love birds. – I said and looked at Justin and Kristen.
- Of course, bye. – Justin replied jealously…again.
Taylor and I headed home to have our movie afternoon. Before that we stopped and bought LOADS of chips, lollipops, pop-corn, ice-cream, etc. I had so much fun that afternoon. While watching a movie, Taylor would make fun of something or someone in funny voices and that would make me laugh my head off. After 3 movies, my Mom came home from work and Taylor went home because it was getting late. Nothing could ruin my happiness!...except for Justin! Not long after Taylor left, my phone rang – it was Justin.
- Hey, what’s up? – I picked up and asked.
- What’s up? You said you had no plans for the afternoon and then I see you with Taylor, not anyone but TAYLOR, in a café having fun like it’s the last freaking day on Earth! – wow! Just wow! He was angry!
- Wait, what? – I acted confused. No, I didn’t act confused, I was.
- You heard me. You first say you have no plans then I see you with Taylor. What is wrong with you?
- What is wrong with ME? What is wrong with YOU? Who are you to call me and ask why I was out with Taylor? Yeah, I had no plans but he called and we went out. – I wanted to punch Justin, punch him so hard in the face, but luckily for him we were on the phone.
- You went out? So now you’re dating? When’s your wedding? Will Justin get an invitation or will he be left out?
- Are you on crack? We’re not dating and even if we were what the f*ck does it matter to you? Just pretend like you don’t know me at school, k? You’ll make both of us a huge favor! – I said and hung up.
Happiness officially ruined! I was mad at Justin. Who gave him the right to mess up with my life? And not only he ruined my happiness, but he also made me go to bed early because I didn’t want to think about him and his childish attitude.
